Being a doctor is not only about treating your patients and prescribing medicine. It also requires you to be compassionate, active listener, patient when you are dealing with mentally ill patients. It is stressful not only for the patient but as a doctor as we both face stigma and discrimination and me and my patients work hard every day not only to heal themselves but bring them back in the mainstream society by overcoming discrimination. Yet I am happy with my work as I have been a facilitator in lives of many of my patients and their families. Their smile and blessings are my reward I have collected so far in my life. Psychiatry is the subject where we not only treat the patient but also, we help their families and ultimately, we treat the society. This is the reason I have chosen psychiatry in my post-graduation. My mission is to restore the identity, dignity as well as integrity of patients.
